BSB: Showdown is coming

Shane 'Shakey' Byrne arrives at Assen this weekend (20/21/22 September) for the start of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship Showdown heading the standings by just six points, but the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider is ready to wage war in his quest for a record-breaking fourth title.

Byrne has won more races this season than he did last year on his way to securing his third title, but the defending champion knows that he can't afford to give an inch as his rivals push to close the deficit this weekend. The Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki rider was victorious at the Dutch track last season; claiming the first ever MCE BSB race win at the circuit on his return from injury and is determined to return to the top step of the podium this weekend.

Byrne said: "This is it now and basically everything we have been working towards over the first part of the season comes down to the Showdown. We have worked hard as a team to be in the best possible shape for these final three rounds and to try and win that fourth title - you can be sure I certainly won't be giving up now!

"I am excited to get it started; I had a lead and now that has been reduced to just six points so there is no comfort now but I just need to concentrate on winning starting with the two races this weekend. If we can focus on the wins, which is the same as at any other round so far this season, and keep ourselves out of trouble then hopefully it will be on.

"I have been on both sides of the Showdown but now it is time to focus on winning and beating the competition. We need to be finishing the races ahead of Alex and Josh; a second place won't be a drama just yet but the ideal scenario for me and the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki team is to come away from Assen this weekend with two wins."
